Home Journey of Water Young Scientists

Young Scientists

At CSI we hope to engage and inspire the next generation of scientists, activists, and environmental stewards. We offer opportunities to take part in educational programs during the summer months and provide tools for self-led environmental science education. These educational opportunities are developed and supported by the expertise of our water scientists and our state-certified water testing lab.

Who are Young Scientists?

Young Scientists include children and families who have engaged in water quality monitoring of local water resources with the Community Science Institute (CSI). These scientists have taken part in our 4-H2O Education Program, volunteered to monitor a location on a local stream or lake, or have completed the Biomonitoring Water Quality Report card. This page features the results of their important work, photos, and descriptions of their experiences. We hope you will enjoy seeing the work of the next generation of scientists, activists, and water quality stewards.

To become a featured Young Scientist, send in your results after completing a Water Quality Report Card for one of your favorite streams. You can also send a photograph of your completed Water Quality Report Card, photos of your favorite stream, and descriptions of your experience monitoring water.

You can also become a featured Young Scientist by attending one of our 4-H2O Education Program events offered during the summer months, by attending a Biomonitoring Open Lab Night, or by volunteering to monitor local water quality. To learn more, please contact Biomonitoring Coordinator Adrianna Hirtler.
