The core of CSI’s mission is to forge partnerships between groups of volunteers and our certified testing lab to monitor, understand and protect water resources.
New volunteers are always welcome to join one of CSI’s partner groups in the Cayuga Lake watershed or the Upper Susquehanna River watershed (maps of monitoring locations are on Maps & Data page).
Citizens are also encouraged to recruit their friends and neighbors and start a new group to monitor a stream or lake that they love or are concerned about. CSI can work with you to train your group, support the collection of scientifically credible water quality data and archive and disseminate it on our website.
We gratefully acknowledge current and past sources of financial support for our Tompkins County-Wide Water Quality Monitoring Initiative in which local governments and other stakeholders are asked to contribute in proportion to their tax base and population.
For information about the costs associated with volunteer monitoring partnerships and how to offer your support, visit the Funding page.
If you are interested in joining a volunteer group or starting a new one, contact Becky Sims, CSI’s Outreach Coordinator at becky@communityscience.org
