Join us at Community Science Institute’s lab in Ithaca for an evening of hands-on science and community learning. During Biomonitoring Open Lab Nights, volunteers help sort and identify benthic macroinvertebrates—small stream-dwelling organisms like aquatic insects—collected from local streams during the summer. These tiny creatures reveal the ecological health of our waterways and highlight the amazing biodiversity of the Finger Lakes region.
No experience? No problem! Our Biomonitoring Program Coordinator, Adrianna, will provide all the training you need. Volunteers can drop in for a few minutes or a few hours, depending on your schedule.
