For two decades, CSI has partnered with volunteers from the community to monitor and protect our shared water resources. Together, we have collected over 100,000 measurements of water quality from the Cayuga Lake watershed, Seneca Lake watershed, Keuka Lake watershed, Upper Susquehanna River watershed, and across central New York! These data help build long-term datasets that can identify water quality trends and indicate not only where water quality can improve, but also where it is good, shedding light on some of our most pressing water quality issues such as nutrient runoff, stormwater, and harmful algal blooms. All data are archived in our online public Water Quality Database where they can be explored and downloaded free of cost. These data serve as an invaluable resource for citizens concerned about local water quality, for water resource managers, and for local governments designing sustainable water management strategies. By partnering with volunteers to collect these data, we empower communities with the tools and knowledge necessary to steward local water resources.

IndentIn 2020, CSI has remained hard at work. During these unprecedented times we continue to collect these invaluable water quality data in partnership with the dedicated volunteers of our Synoptic Stream Monitoring Program, Red Flag Monitoring Program, and Biological Monitoring Program; we continue to provide the civic service of potable water testing; we have expanded and improved our efforts to monitor harmful algal blooms (HABs) on Cayuga Lake in partnership with the volunteers of our Cayuga Lake HABs Monitoring Program; and we adapted our 4-H2O Education Program to COVID-19 safety guidelines so that we could continue to educate and inspire the next generation of activists, scientists, and environmental stewards.

IndentHelp to ensure that we can continue to partner with communities to protect water – now, and in the future. Become a member of CSI or renew your membership today! Our membership goal this year reflects the support we need to futher our mission and sustain our efforts to protect water.

IndentEvery river emerges from many droplets – with your help today, we can reach our goal! By becoming a member today, you will be supporting our community water monitoring partnerships, the collection of regulatory-quality data that is used to inform sustainable water management strategies, and continuous outreach and education. Most of all, you will be joining and supporting a community that cares deeply for our shared water resources and that these invaluable natural resources are protected.
