Six Mile Creek Volunteer Monitoring Partnership
Initiated in 2004 with funding from the four municipalities located in the Six Mile Creek watershed and the Tompkins County Soil and Water Conservation District, this volunteer monitoring partnership has gotten off to a fast start with complimentary sets of chemical and biological sampling events. In September and November, volunteers collected water samples from 13 locations and transported them to the CSI lab for certified analyses. On their own, volunteers collected and analyzed benthic macroinvertebrate (BMI, or aquatic insects) samples from six locations for a biological analysis of water quality.
