The Six Mile Creek Volunteer Group was recognized by the Town of Ithaca Conservation Board for their contributions to Ithaca’s natural environment. The Richard B. Fischer Environmental Conservation Award was presented to the Six Mile Creek volunteers at a tree planting ceremony in Ithaca’s Grandview Park, which is in the Six Mile Creek watershed.
CSI volunteers have been monitoring Six Mile Creek since 2004. Volunteers collect samples from 15 sites approximately 5 times per year with the Synoptic Sampling program, and from 3-4 sites per year with the Biological Monitoring program. The Richard B. Fischer Award is given in recognition of contributions to the natural environment in the Town of Ithaca.
